Can we overlay layers from multiple Web Map Servers onto the online map?
Posted September 26th, 2008 by Earle Burris
Can we overlay layers from multiple Web Map Servers onto the online map? I'd like to be able to enhance the online dynamic maps with layers from Web Map Servers ( e. g. a layer of railroad tracks onto the existing online map). I thought I read that the WMS specification allows multiple layers to be overlaid with each other. Are the online maps WMS compliant as well?

Yes, make sure you have View -> Other Cards -> Map Options turned on - you should then see all the layers provided by that WMS.
James,
Yeah, but...
I think the original question was, "Can you mix and match?" Looks like you can only have one general map source active at the same time. So, while you can overlay multiple WMS layers, seems like you cannot (at this time) overlay one or more WMS layers on the online map layer(s) from PushPin. In other words....only one map source active at a time. Could you accomplish this using the offline maps version of the PushPin layer(s)?
MANY BLESSINGS!
Peace and All Good!

Michael is correct. I wanted to know if I could use layers from WMS servers in conjunction with the online map layer that is supplied with Tableau.
I apologize - I was indeed reading too quickly, and thought "multiple layers" instead of "layers from multiple".
Using multiple WMS servers at the same time is not supported. Put more generally, background maps must come from a single source, meaning Tableau will not composite maps from Online/WMS or any other combination.
