Connect to XML/A Provider?

Hi,

Can Tableau connect to an XML/A provider, i.e. does Tableau have an XML/A consumer? I know that Tableau supports Microsoft Analysis Services, but I'm not sure if this is via a direct connection or via XML/A.

Tableau does not use XML/A directly, though we have talked about moving in that direction. We use the MSAS OLE/DB driver to talk to Analysis Services. The MSAS 2005 OLE/DB driver does use XML/A, so you may be able to connect to an XML/A server, but we have not tested that scenario, and I don't know what expectations or requirements the OLE/DB driver has. If you do try it, let us know how it goes.

Out of curiosity, to what XML/A backend are you interested in connecting?
