How Tableau deal with Data?

in the last thread Marc said "Tableau does not import the data from the original datasource - it merely processes and displays the results from queries sent to the original datasource.
"

I want to ask if Tableau send query to original datasource everytime when I do drag / drop manipulation?

if the answser is yes I think that may be cause some performance problem for query the same datasource so many times

if the answser is no , then , how does it work?
Does the query dataset be loaded to the client?

I holp someone can explain the mechanism that Tableau deal with the data?

If you've got a slow database, you can turn the "Auto Update" flag off in Tableau, perform several drag & drop manipulations, and then trigger a query/refresh yourself.

Tableau also caches the results of queries and uses that whenever possible
