Multiple X and Y Axes
Posted November 14th, 2007 by Mohammadsamaha
Hi All,
Is there a way to show multipe x or y axes on any of the charts in Tableau?
I've tried to edit an axis and I've chosen the > Independet axis ranges for each row or column< option but it didnt show independnt values/ ranges!
thanks.

If I understand your question correctly, the simplest is to drag another measure onto the appropriate shelf (row or column) and drop it to the right of your existing measure. This will create another axis for the new measure.
If that's not what you were looking for, could you provide an example to help clarify?
thanks,
:)ross
The attached Excel example shows two axis with different scales and different marks for two measures on the same chart. This should probably be avoided most of the time, cause you have to figure out which scale applies to which measure, but there are cases in which it's useful (e.g. aging report used in credit scoring).
No, Tableau does not support creating a chart with two different scales on the same chart (sometimes called a layered visualization).
It is possible to manually create this by creating two sheets, saving the first sheet as an image and then using that image as a background image on the second sheet. But it takes some care to get the axis ranges just right, and of course the image will not be automatically updated when your data changes.
