Separate queries for Filter values

A nice option would be to optionally provide separate queries for Filter values.
Currently if I have large queries... they need to execute just to get the values to filter by. It would be nice to be able to define queries for these values (e.g. 'Select Name from Product where Active = 1') so that the filter values could populate quickly even with automatic update turned off.

Brian, there are lots of ways to do this in Tableau. By far the simplest is to first add a filter to the filter shelf for the Active field. Then add the Product Name field to the filter shelf and it will automatically be limited to the active Names.
If you have Automatic Updates off then when you type in the value for the Active flag no query will be sent. When you choose 'Select from list' for the Name filter a query similar to what you suggest is sent to the database.
