Which Neighborhood Types Produce the Bulk of Mortgage Loan Applications?
Based on publicly available mortgage application data (reported to regulatory agencies as "HMDA" data), middle income neighborhoods place the largest number of applications. Lower income neighborhoods tend to have higher numbers of minority applicants while upper income neighborhoods have higher numbers of white applicants. Color shows the number of applications by race; it's easy to see that the proportion of loans by race changes as the neighhorhood type changes.
