Even more connectivity

We’ve added native connectivity for four datasources and provided support for hundreds of other connections with an ODBC connector.

  • Sybase IQ
    Sybase IQ is a column-based analytics server designed for business intelligence, analytics and data warehousing solutions. Tableau supports Sybase IQ database version 12 and higher.
  • Microsoft® PowerPivot
    Microsoft PowerPivot is an Excel add-in for modeling and analyzing data in large Excel worksheets of up to 2 gigabytes, literally millions of rows of data. Tableau connects to PowerPivot files that have been published to SharePoint 2010 servers.
  • Greenplum
    Greenplum is a massively parallel processing (MPP) database designed for data warehousing and large-scale analytics. Tableau connects to Greenplum version 3.3 and higher.
  • ParAccel Analytic Database (PADB)
    ParAccel Analytic Database (PADB) is a columnar, massively parallel database for data warehousing, analytics, and business intelligence. Tableau connects to PADB version 2 and higher.
  • ODBC
    As a publicly defined standard, many database vendors make ODBC drivers available for connecting to their databases. ODBC drivers used with Tableau are required to meet the ODBC Version 3.0 compliance level.

Enhancements to default maps

Enhancements to default maps

Tableau’s default map style has been updated with new font treatments and subtle changes to the colors used for water, land, parks and urban areas. Visual design for roads and border styles is also improved. We’ve also added more precise control over the map options to control whether map attributes such as country borders and state borders appear on the map.

As an alternative to the default maps, Tableau 5.2 has a second map style. In addition to the new font treatments and improved roads and border styles, this muted gray-scale map with white water areas can provide a very dramatic effect on map visualizations.

Finally, the new maps include increased depth coverage for zooming into all parts of the world. Tableau now zooms to the following levels:

  • U.S. and Canada - 16 levels of zoom
    Down to very close to street level
  • Western Europe - 15 levels of zoom
    Down to street level
  • Australia/ New Zealand - 15 levels of zoom
    Down to street level
  • Rest of world - no fewer than 12 levels of zoom
    Down to city view

Updates to place names

Finally, the data points behind Tableau’s automatic geocoding has been updated to reflect recent changes in Country names, States/Provinces, U.S. Counties, U.S. Zip codes, U.S. Area Codes, and U.S. CBSA information.
