Highlighting: Emphasize Relationships and Trends

Before you add highlighting, think about what readers are going to be interested in and what parts of the viz they are going to want to click and highlight. Also ask yourself whether they will want the highlighting to move across all of their views.

Legend Highlighting

The easiest way to highlight is with legend highlighting. Simply click the icon in the top right of any color legend and you can chose to “highlight select items.” This allows viewers to isolate the parts of the data that interest them:

Highlighting Across Multiple Views

Highlighting related data across multiple views lets the viewer quickly compare different aspects of the data. Simply use the highlight option on the toolbar to select what data you want to highlight across your views. Remember to highlight the most important thing (hint: this is often the subject of your viz).
