The Tableau Sports Viz contest is a chance to prove your visualization chops and win big.

Q: What are the terms of participating?

Anyone US citizen not in the employ of Tableau Software can participate as long as they follow our guidelines and rules.

Q: How many entries may one person make?

Up to two entries are welcomed.

Q: What if I submit an entry early, and then later re-work my viz and want to replace my first entry?

That’s fantastic – feel free to do that up until the close of the contest. Tableau Public automatically supports updates to your viz. You do not need to resubmit your entry form, simply update your workbook and save your changes. Your embedded viz will automatically update on the webpage you have posted it to.

Q: Can I really use any dataset?

You bet! Make sure to choose an interesting one though- boring data does not win contests.

Q: How many datasets can I join in?

As many as you want, but more is not always better.

Q: How many tabs can I use?

As many as you want, but again, more is not always better.

Q: Who can I contact if I am having problems with Tableau Public?

You may contact Tableau at info-public@tableausoftware.com, please include Viz Contest in the subject line.

Q: How will the visualization be judged?

A panel of judges comprised of Tableau employees will evaluate all submissions based on the following criteria:

  • 25% - Overall Appeal
  • 25% - Design Elements
  • 50% - Data Analysis/Findings
  • The Panel will evaluate and attribute a score between 0-100 to each Submission made up of scores between 0-25 for each of the above listed criterion. The Submission that receives the highest overall score from the Panel will be selected as the winner. In the event of a tie, the Submission(s) that received the higher score from the Panel in the category of “Overall Appeal” will be selected as the Winner.
