Product Activation

The best way to activate your license is through the product itself. In Tableau Desktop, select Help > Manage Product Keys and then click Activate. If you have any trouble activating your license, please follow the Activating Tableau Offline directions.

Note: Some drivers install into a directory that is specific to the version of Tableau you are using. Drivers marked for all versions are installed outside of the versioned directories so they can be used for all versions of both Tableau Desktop and Tableau Server.

  1. Close Tableau Desktop.
  2. Download TableauDrivers.dmg.
  3. Double-click the downloaded file.
  4. Double-click Tableau PostgreSQL Libraries.
  5. Accept the defaults.
  6. Open Tableau Desktop and connect to Amazon Redshift.

Cloudera Hive

Follow these steps to install the driver for Cloudera Hadoop Hive:

  1. Verify that you have an ODBC Administrator. You can download one from Apple: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL895.
  2. Download the ClouderaHiveODBC driver. Double-click the downloaded file to run the package. Accept the defaults.
  3. Open Terminal and type:
    sudo nano /etc/profile
  4. Append the following to your /etc/profile:
    if [ "${DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH}" = "" ]; then
        # For Cloudera Hadoop Hive driver
          launchctl setenv DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH "/opt/cloudera/hiveodbc/lib/universal"

    sudo cp /opt/cloudera/hiveodbc/Setup/cloudera.hiveodbc.ini /etc/ 
  7. Open ODBC Administrator, click Drivers, and then click Add to add the Cloudera driver:
    • In Description, type “Cloudera ODBC Driver for Apache Hive”.
      Note: The name in Description must appear exactly as above.
    • In Driver file, type or browse to: /opt/cloudera/hiveodbc/lib/universal/libclouderahiveodbc.dylib
    • Click OK and then close ODBC Administrator. (No need to click Apply.)
  8. Log out of your Mac, and then log in again.
    This will ensure Tableau loads the driver correctly.

Cloudera Impala

Follow these steps to install the driver for Cloudera Hadoop Impala:

  1. Verify that you have an ODBC Administrator. You can download one from Apple: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL895.

Hortonworks Hadoop Hive

Follow these steps to install the driver for Hortonworks Hadoop Hive:

  2. Download the Hive ODBC Driver for OS X. Double-click the downloaded file to run the package. Accept the defaults.
  3. Open Terminal and type:

HP Vertica

Follow these steps to install the driver for HP Vertica:

  1. Verify that you have an ODBC Administrator. You can download one from Apple: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL895. Control-click to install the downloaded dmg.
  2. Download the 64-bit 7.0.1 MAC driver from the myVertica portal.
    For other installation scenarios, see Installing the ODBC Driver on Macintosh OS X on the Vertica website.
  3. Start Terminal and type in the following command to create target directory:
    sudo mkdir -p /Library/ODBC/vertica
  4. Change to the directory you just created:
    cd /Library/ODBC/vertica
  5. Unpack the file containing the ODBC driver using the following command:
    sudo tar -xzf ~/Downloads/vertica-odbc-7.0.1-0.64.mac.tar
    Note: The file name will change with new version releases. If this command is not working, replace “vertica-odbc-7.0.1-0.64.mac.tar.gz“ above with the file name in your Downloads folder.
  6. Download TableauDrivers.dmg.
  7. Double-click TableauDrivers.dmg in the Downloads folder.
  8. Double-click Tableau Vertica Configure.pkg and accept the defaults. You will be asked to restart your Mac.
  9. Open Tableau Desktop and connect to HP Vertica.

Microsoft SQL Server

Follow these steps to install the driver for Microsoft SQL Server:

  1. Close Tableau Desktop.
  2. Download TableauDrivers.dmg.
  3. Double-click the downloaded file.
  4. Control-click Simba SQL Server ODBC.pkg and then click Open to run the package. Accept the defaults.
  5. Open Tableau Desktop and connect to Microsoft SQL Server.

MySQL

Follow these steps to install the driver for MySQL:

  1. Close Tableau Desktop.
  2. Download the MySQL ODBC driver.
    Note: you can sign up or click No thanks, just start my download at the bottom of the page.
  3. Control-click to run the installer and accept the defaults.
  4. Open Tableau Desktop and connect to MySQL.

Oracle

Follow these steps to install the driver for Oracle:

  1. Close Tableau Desktop.
  2. Download TableauDrivers.dmg.
  3. Double-click the downloaded file.
  4. Double-click Tableau Oracle Libraries.
  5. Accept the defaults.
  6. Open Tableau Desktop and connect to Oracle.

Pivotal Greenplum

Follow these steps to install the driver for Pivotal Greenplum:

  1. Close Tableau Desktop.
  2. Download TableauDrivers.dmg.
  3. Double-click the downloaded file.
  4. Double-click Tableau PostgreSQL Libraries.
  5. Accept the defaults.
  6. Open Tableau Desktop and connect to Pivotal Greenplum.

Postgres

Follow these steps to install the driver for Postgres:

  1. Close Tableau Desktop.
  2. Download TableauDrivers.dmg.
  3. Double-click the downloaded file.
  4. Double-click Tableau PostgreSQL Libraries.
  5. Accept the defaults.
  6. Open Tableau Desktop and connect to PostgreSQL.

Teradata

Follow these steps to install the driver for Teradata:

  1. Verify that you have an ODBC Administrator. You can download one from Apple: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL895.
  2. Close Tableau Desktop.
  3. Download the Teradata installer. Double-click the .tar file in the Downloads folder.
  4. Ctrl-click the .pkg file and then click Open to run the package. Accept the defaults.
  5. Restart your computer.
  6. Open Tableau Desktop and connect to Teradata.
