  • 3) Submit one Tableau Packaged Workbook (.twbx) by March 13, 2009

Data Sets

 (Choose One)

Data Set A: Stimulus Watch Data

The projects in this data are not part of the stimulus bill. Rather they are a list of programs that the The U.S. Conference of Mayors would like to see funded from the stimulus bill. The data includes:

  • +Proposed stimulus programs and projects from US Mayors
  • +Estimated cost and jobs created
  • +City and state geography information
  • +URL links to programs and projects
  • +Read about Stimulus Watch & FAQs about the data and its source

Data Set B: Home Mortgage Disclosure Act Data

Many people don’t know that details about every mortgage application are reported every year to government agencies based on requirements specified by the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA). This regulation provides the public loan data that can be used to assist in determining whether financial institutions are serving the housing needs of their communities and in identifying possible discriminatory lending patterns.

We’ve sampled 5% of all home mortgage applications in 2007 reported to the FDIC. For each mortgage covered in this sample, you’ll find applicant demographics such as gender, race and income and loan application characteristics such as loan amount, property type, application status and so on. Use this data to uncover:

  • +Which FDIC institutions are approving and denying which kinds of loans
  • +Whether geographic or demographic denial patterns exist
  • +If certain institutions have portfolios that suggest greater risk
  • +To help you understand the HMDA data, we’ve created a short 1-page guide. No claims are made regarding accuracy. So do your homework and have fun!
