A panel of judges, comprised of Tableau's own Dr. Jock Mackinlay, Flowingdata.com's Nathan Yau and other experts, will evaluate all submissions based on overall appeal, design elements, and data analysis/findings.

Many people don’t know that details about every mortgage application are reported every year to government agencies based on requirements specified by the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act (HMDA). This regulation provides the public loan data that can be used to assist in determining whether financial institutions are serving the housing needs of their communities and in identifying possible discriminatory lending patterns.
We’ve sampled 5% of all home mortgage applications in 2007 reported to the FDIC. For each mortgage covered in this sample, you’ll find applicant demographics such as gender, race and income and loan application characteristics such as loan amount, property type, application status and so on.
