Now Available: Salesforce Canvas Documentation for Embedding Tableau

A few months ago we released a video about embedding Tableau dashboards into Salesforce using Canvas. This lets you get data to your Salesforce users, in the context of their everyday work, so they have the information to make the right decisions. Many of you asked for the documentation for this, and today we're releasing that.
A few months ago we released a video about embedding Tableau dashboards into Salesforce using Canvas. This lets you get data to your Salesforce users, in the context of their everyday work, so they have the information to make the right decisions. Many of you asked for the documentation for this, and today we're releasing that. This video gives you an overview of the solution and the docs:

The zip file has a number of useful docs, including the dashboards shown in this video and the visual force pages used to embed them.

There's also a new community space that you can use for questions and feedback. We'd love to hear what you think of the solution.

One of the common questions we get is, why use Salesforce Canvas instead of the simpler solution, an iframe? Two reasons:

  1. Salesforce Canvas enforces https security, so your CRM data stays secure
  2. Canvas enables passing parameters, like account ID and opportunity ID

Using Canvas, you can get any data out in interactive dashboards right inside Salesforce, even if it isn't Salesforce data. Tableau connects to multiple data sources and allows you to blend data together from different sources, so you could use Canvas to show your sales team Salesforce data blended with demographics, or with product data.

Give it a try, and let us know what you think!
