Where Are Firearms Owners Relative to Population?
In this visualization, we've married data indicating the percent of population that own firearms with detailed population data from the Census Bureau. This map shows the difference between rate and volume. In other words, rate answers the question what percent of the population owns a firearm while volume answers the question what is the total number of firearms in the state? Not surprisingly, many high rate states have overall low volumes. The notable exceptions are TX, GA, NC, MI and PA, where rates and volume are both high.
